Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and its global affiliates (collectively, "Huawei", "we", "us", and "our") understand the importance of privacy and respect your privacy. To help you learn about the subjects released on HIRP, submit proposals and know about their review results, as well as negotiate technical cooperation agreements with Huawei once proposals are approved, we need you to submit your information on HIRP.

Before submitting any personal data to HIRP, carefully read this Privacy Policy ("this Policy").

1.How does HIRP collect and use your personal data?

Personal data refers to any information that can be used independently or combined with other information to identify an individual. Such data is directly submitted to us when you use our website. For example, before you submit a project proposal, you need to submit your personal information. We collect data including your name, gender, email, mobile phone number, office phone number, country, school/department, university/institute, laboratory, professional title, and photo. All of the data excluding mobile phone number, office phone number, laboratory, and photo must be provided. We also collect the information that you provide us with, including records of uploaded proposals and downloaded files. You may need to provide your personal data when using Huawei products or services. If you only browse the HIRP website, you can choose not to provide personal data to Huawei. In such cases, you cannot download relevant files or upload proposals, and Huawei cannot meet your requirements.

We may use your personal data to:

b Evaluate your academic background, check whether your proposal meets our cooperation requirements, and quickly find optimal resources to promote project cooperation.

c Make changes (for example, to personal information and project proposals), and provide information or technical support at your request.

d Contact you with your consent, send you information that you may be interested in. If you do not want to receive such information, you can unsubscribe at any time.

e Send the proposal review results regarding your cooperation requirements to the email that you submit.

f Manage business partners with regard to technical cooperation, communicate with business partners, and conduct business activities.

g Carry out internal audits, data analysis, and research to improve our partner experience and services.

h Troubleshoot faults if you choose to send us error details.

i Sync, share, and store the data you upload or download, and the data needed for uploading and downloading.

j Execute and improve loss prevention and anti-fraud programs to ensure user security.

k Comply with and implement applicable laws, relevant industry standards, or our policies.

HIRP may also collect and use non-identifiable data. Non-identifiable data refers to data that cannot be used to identify an individual. For example, Huawei may collect summarized statistics, such as the number of uploaded proposals and downloaded subjects. HIRP collects this data to understand your willingness to cooperate with Huawei. In this way, Huawei can understand the cooperation better and maintain a good partnership between us. Huawei may, at its own discretion, collect, use, process, transfer, or disclose non-identifiable data. We endeavor to isolate your personal data from non-identifiable data and use the two types of data separately. Any personal data that contains non-identifiable data will be treated as personal data.

Huawei abides by all applicable laws when processing your personal data. This includes:

  • Processing your personal data when responding to your proposal review and technical cooperation requirements or when fulfilling the technical cooperation contract between us.
  • Processing your personal data with your consent.
  • Processing your personal data based on our legal rights when we contact you, promote Huawei's innovative cooperation subjects, and provide review conclusions regarding your cooperation proposals, to improve our services as well as execute and improve loss prevention and anti-fraud programs. Legitimate interests include (1) enabling us to manage and operate our business and provide our products and services more effectively; (2) protecting the security of our business, systems, products, services, and users; (3) complying with internal policies and processes during internal management; (5) other legitimate interests described in this Policy.

2.How does HIRP disclose personal data?

We may share your personal data with our partners, in accordance with this Policy, if we have authorized them to offer certain services. For example, when signing a contract with you, Huawei must share your personal data with a logistics service provider to arrange contract delivery. In addition, as a multinational company, Huawei may share your personal data among its affiliates.

Huawei may also need to disclose your personal data to law enforcement or other government agencies as stipulated by applicable laws or legal processes. Your personal data may also be disclosed to transaction parties if Huawei is involved in restructuring, merger, bankruptcy, or liquidation proceedings in a given jurisdiction. Huawei may also need to disclose your personal data due to reasonable requirements, for example, when we need to execute contract terms, prevent physical damage or property loss, and cooperate in the investigation of possibly or actually illegal acts.

3.How can you access or modify your personal data?

Please ensure that all the personal data you submit is accurate. Huawei endeavors to keep your personal data accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

If permitted by applicable laws, you can exercise the following rights: (1) access your personal data that we hold; (2) request that we update or correct inaccurate records of your personal data; (3) reject or restrict the use of your personal data by us; (4) request that we delete your personal data.

For security, you may need to provide written requests. We may decline requests if we determine that they are fraudulent or infeasible, or that they may jeopardize the privacy of others.

If permitted by applicable laws, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time when Huawei processes your personal data. A consent withdrawal does not affect the legality and effectiveness of how we process your personal data based on your consent before the withdrawal is made, nor does it affect how we process your data based on other appropriate, legitimate reasons.

4.How does HIRP protect and retain your personal data?

Huawei attaches importance to the security of personal data. We use appropriate physical, management, and technical measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, modification, damage, or loss. For example, we use cryptographic technologies to ensure data confidentiality; we use trusted protection mechanisms to prevent malicious data attacks; we deploy access control mechanisms to ensure that personal data can only be accessed by authorized personnel; we offer security and privacy protection training courses to raise employees' awareness of personal data protection. Huawei is committed to protecting your personal data; however, please note that no security measure is completely infallible.

We will retain your personal data within the period necessary to achieve the purposes stated in this Policy, unless an extension of the retention period is required or permitted by laws. After you submit your proposal, we may need time to review the proposal and communicate with you. Subsequently, we may reach a technical cooperation agreement. To comply with relevant laws, HIRP will retain your personal data for six years after the last time you use HIRP. You can also request us to delete your personal data. After receiving such a request, we will delete your personal data unless otherwise stipulated by laws.

The personal data you submit to us will be stored on servers in China.

5.How is your personal data transferred globally?

Huawei is a multinational company, which means that personal data collected by Huawei may be processed or accessed in countries or regions where you use our products or services, or other countries or regions where Huawei or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers are located. Data protection laws may differ in these countries or regions. In such cases, Huawei will take measures to ensure that data is processed according to this Policy and applicable laws. For example, when transferring your personal data from the EU to countries or regions that are not recognized by the EU as having an adequate level of data protection, Huawei will use various legal mechanisms to secure your personal data, for example, signing standard contract terms that are approved by the European Commission, obtaining your consent to transfer data, or implementing security measures like data anonymization before transfers.
